Pat's run is a bit of a misnomer for us. It was actually Pat's walk. Saturday morning, we woke early to catch the light rail to ASU. A run/walk in honor of Pat Tillman was our purpose. 4.2 miles for Pat's #42 jersey. The morning was a beautiful one and we were able to sleep in a bit longer after our experience from last year.
Last year...our first Pat's run. Novices to the event, but not novices to races, we did what all good racers do, and showed up early so we could park and prepare for our upcoming event. Little did we know that over 25,000 people attend this event. And, though the race officially starts at 7am, only those 4 minute milers start at that time. The rest of us are separated into carrols according to our speed. As we were walking, we were in the last group.
Both last year and this, we were able to cheer on the leaders (those 4-minute milers!) as they ran past us to the finish...only we had not even BEGUN to walk yet. That's right, we were still waiting to cross the start line when the winner sprinted past us. Finally, about 45 minutes after start time, we began to move. We learned our lesson, thus, the later arrival this year.
And, we had fun! Brandon and Noah stroller'ed it until the finish, at which time they walked into the stadium. Next year, we think Brandon will walk it as the stroller was a bit tight this year. At least we hope he can make it!
