He's a Star
Brandon's school has a program called Star Student and, because his mommy is just like that, she signed him up to be first Star.
Each student gets to pick a week out of the year where he or she is Star Student. During that week, they bring in a show and tell every single day, create a picture collage of the things they like to do and the people they like to do them with, and bring their parents into school with them. During the parent visit day, the child shows a science experiment and shares their favorite book with the class.
Dave and Brandon worked all week on determining what a good science experiment would be to show a group of Kindergartners. Their favorite was the exploding Mento/Diet Coke geyser, but Dave decided spraying the children with soda probably wasn't the most responsible experiment to demonstrate.
So, instead, they pulled out the trusty Jr. Circuit Kit and decided to show the kids just how electricity actually works. My favorite part was the poster-board that they put together:
Brandon explained how we need electricity to run certain things in our house, such as the light, the fan, and the television. Then, he and Dave found various ways we produce electricity to show the kids where it all comes from.
Then, they put together a circuit and explained how the electricity from the battery travels along the wire to the fan. Later, they built another circuit that played a Happy Birthday song. The kids in his class were very attentive and very interested.
Brandon also was able to choose his favorite book and he decided upon Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess.
It was so fun to see the kids go through their morning routine and then settle in for a little learning. Tomorrow will be my first day volunteering in class during Reading time. Can't wait!

I agree he IS a star! I love seeing him in school with his uniform! What a fun way to be a star by sharing a science experiment and your favorite book. Sounds like my kind of teacher. :) Now you'll have to make some green eggs and ham.
What a great way to learn science and in such a special school. Way to go Brandon for teaching that day! Hugs from Gma Alice
