Breakfast with the Warthogs

Saturday morning, the whole family went to the zoo for a special breakfast with the Warthogs. These zoo programs are my favorite, especially the ones where we get real animal interaction. After having a light people breakfast and making a warthog craft, we trekked over to the warthog's home. The keeper told us all about the things they like to eat (carrots, grass, sweet potatoes and their special treat, apples), how many babies they have (around 4), and why they wallow in the mud (to stay cool, natural sunscreen, keep the bugs off, and camouflage from predators). Noah even knew a natural predator of the warthog, the panther, since he and Dave had watched a video the day before on the computer.

After our lesson, we went behind the scenes to the night house of the warthogs and were able to feed the males through the fence. Love those interactive experiences!
