Winter Wonderland

Yesterday, we were walking in a winter wonderland.

There is something magical about snow, especially when you find a big drift of the white stuff in 75 degree weather.

St. John Bosco held its annual Winter Wonderland event on Saturday. This event is easily one of our favorites. Dave wakes before dawn to help the dads cook up a big breakfast in the SJB kitchen. The boys and I linger just a bit in the morning before donning snow boots, mittens, and fleece jackets in anticipation of the artificial chill snow brings to even a warm Phoenix day. Usually, the food calls the boys, but this time, they did not delay before jumping into the snowball throwing fray.

Later, during breakfast, Santa arrived and the boys shared their Christmas wish list with the jolly old fellow. Dave, the expert at lipreading, confirmed that their list remained unchanged from a few weeks ago.

After watching the snow melt, we went home for a few hours of quiet before driving downtown to enjoy a Holiday family event at the Phoenix symphony. Santa joined us there, as well, though he did look suspiciously different. "That's ok," Noah said, "he's just Santa's helper. We would have to get in a boat to see the real Santa!"

Today, we decided to celebrate the first Sunday of Advent by decorating our Christmas tree. The boys unpacked and placed almost every single ornament on the tree. Their excitement was contagious, so I joined in then treated all of us to a cup of hot chocolate.

The Advent season has begun and we are all anxiously awaiting both Santa and baby Jesus' arrival!
